23 Things - Thing 18

Look as I've mentioned before, I don't have internet at home, which makes this fantastic concept a little irrelevant for me. I'm also a bit paranoid. I know there are safeguards etc but I feel better using a computer that is a stand alone and not putting anything I wish keep under wraps online or even on my usb. I really, really like the concept 'tho.
I also like that Zoho has access to all the 'usual' office programs that most people need and that you can work offline as well. They even have the capacity to create a wiki!

23 Things - Thing 17

It felt really weird. I definitely need more practice. But a very short exercise. Also makes me feel good to see the link to my blog on someone else's page (I still haven't done Thing 4 - Monday I promise).

23 Things - Thing 16

I love the idea of having a workplace wiki - one where you could share advice, tips and tricks. Also where you could find the rules and regs you want in an easily searchable form. And having one where anyone could enter any type of info sounds really good too. (for a better description check out: http://webjunction.org/do/DisplayContent?id=11264) I'm a bit concerned that not a great many customers would be interested in adding or using a wiki while it's still in the 'developmental' stage. I'm not sure how many people (other than staff) access the library blog at the moment.

I think the funniest article that I came across is a description of librarians @http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/LibrarianI love how this wiki doesn't just have 'serious' articles but also a lovely sense of humour. Something I desperately need at the moment.

It might also be fun to have a 'life' wiki where you could write / describe all the lessons you learnt from opening a bank account to how to deal with a sibling in one or more forms of panic. The opportunities for striking terror into the hearts of friends and family are endless.

Although this could work as a blog.

23 Things - Thing 15

Now this is something I am more interested in - and something I feel is worth time spent thinking and reading about. I had a quick read of all the articles but the one I found most interesting was 'To a temporary place in time' by Dr Wendy Schultz. What I particularly liked about it was the description of Library 4.0 as a meditation spa. Could I have one now? Please?
In a way I've always thought of libraries as a quiet retreat from the world. As a child I love to go and sit in a quiet corner (on a comfortable chair) and read the afternoon away. It would be nice to be able to integrate the experience of luxurious sanctuary with the necessity of providing a relevant service to people from a humongous range of background and experiences with a limited budget and other governmental requirements.

23 Things - Thing 14

I can understand the appeal of finding out how popular blog (I'm curious about mine but I suspect no one's paying any attention to it). And to check out what everyone else is interested in. Unfortunaly Technorati feels like (to me anyway) another interesting way (in a search engine kind of a way) to spend a lot of time in front of the computer and I'm not really into that at the moment. I have a gazillion other things that require my attention and I keep getting interrupted. I think this is another one of those things I'm just going to have to get back to. Maybe there's a website that could help keep track of all those things as well. Hmmm.

23 Things - Thing 13

I think the thing I like best about Del.icio.us is the fact you can access anywhere you have a net connection. Although transferring and organising the enormous number of bookmarks I have (on various computers) is a monumental task. To answer the question we were asked about how useful we thought Del.icio.us would be as a resource tool. I think it could be very useful if I had the time (and the inclination or customers asking the 'right' questions), all I seem to do now is scrabble to keep my head above water.

Just out of curiosity is anyone else not able to access the tutorial?

And now for something a little different ...

Mostly (and I'm sure you've notice) I've only been posting as part of the 23 Things, so i thought it was time I blogged something else. And here it is:

This is a photo of the surprise teddy bears I got give for my last birthday. The georgous traditional bear (he is fantastic to hug) is called Khan. Love the name- it came with him. The little one I like to think of as the cute purple bear, smelling of lavender, that my mum gave me. Somehow I don't think that name's going to catch on.

Rollyo - what an excellent idea. For those who don't know, Rollyo is a site where you can create a list of sites (especially ones that you know have accurate info) to search through when looking for info. I haven't really created anything yet but when I have more time I'm going to go back and create several different ones. In particular one for finding info for students, one for discovering craft ideas for kids and one to look up review of books. I look forward to making my life easier and more fun.
